Requirements A current, valid, state-tested CNA certification in good standing High school diploma or GED Current CPR/BLS certification (in-person course only) Negative TB skin test or chest x-ray within past year Current valid Texas Driver's License Valid Auto Insurance Reliable transportation Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, push and pull. Varied assistance is required depending on the mobility of the client. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Responsibilities Providing care as directed by a nursing supervisor, including, but not limited to: bathing, grooming, oral care, dressing, undressing, toileting activities, taking and recording vital signs, and assisting with height and weight measurements, if necessary. Providing care according to the patient's plan of care. Assistance with daily tasks, including, but not limited to: feeding, meal preparation, linen changes, light housekeeping, providing transportation to doctor appointments. Vital signs checks happen at regular intervals, and you will be the first person to notice if something seems off with a resident.

The team dynamic is close-knit. You will work alongside other aides, report to the charge nurse, and communicate with families who visit. In memory care units, redirection and engagement activities are a big part of the role — keeping residents calm, oriented, and socially active. The work is physically and emotionally demanding, but many aides describe deep bonds with the residents they care for and a sense of purpose that keeps them in the field long-term.
