Job Description

The *Melanoma/Sarcoma Inpatient* Unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides highly specialized, comprehensive care for patients with complex melanoma and sarcoma diagnoses. This unit supports patients undergoing advanced treatments, including immunotherapy, targeted therapy, chemotherapy, and surgical recovery, within a multidisciplinary, inpatient setting. The care team is composed of expert physicians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and allied health professionals who work collaboratively to deliver personalized, evidence-based care. With a strong focus on patient safety, symptom management, and continuity of care, the unit plays a critical role in managing acute treatment needs while supporting patients and families throughout their cancer journey. *Ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of recent experience working as a Patient Care Technician in an acute care setting. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. Prefer one year of recent experience working in direct patient care.* *Working hours:* This position is a Dayshift - 7 days a week; typically alternating weekends. 7a-3, 3p-11p, and/or 7-7p. *At MD Anderson, we offer careers built on care, growth, and balance. Impacts patient comfort and outcome of care. Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs. Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs. Updates and retrieves patient information. Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Maintenance staff handle a daily work order queue — everything from changing light bulbs and fixing call buttons to HVAC maintenance and plumbing repairs. Life-safety equipment checks (fire extinguishers, exit lighting, generator testing) happen on set schedules. Activities professionals plan and lead group programming — exercise classes, crafts, music sessions, outings — and also provide one-on-one engagement for residents who cannot participate in group settings. Social workers manage care conferences, discharge planning, family mediation, and community resource referrals.
