POSITION SUMMARY The Charge Nurse plans, coordinates, provides, and manages nursing care, nursing services and health education to nursing home residents. The Charge Nurse cares for residents under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing. The position requires patience, compassion and a desire to care for the residents in a gentle and empathetic manner. Requirements SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES • Supervises the care/services provided by the Certified Nursing Assistants and other staff who provide services to the Residents for which the Charge Nurse is responsible. • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies and applicable laws. • Supervisory responsibilities include: o Plans, assigns, and directs work in accordance with the needs of residents and the skill levels of the available staff. o Prepares work assignment sheets, taking into consideration Resident safety, the educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made. o Receive calls and finds replacement for absent staff. o Transfer employees among units as needed. o Prepares performance evaluations with the understanding such evaluations impact tenure of probationary employees and wage increases of non-probationary employees. o Make recommendations regarding rewarding, disciplining, or terminating employees under their supervisions. o Schedules and adjusts lunch and rest breaks. o Receives and resolves employee complaints. o Determines rotation of employees within unit. o Interviews, recommends hires, and trains employees. o Monitors and corrects job performance. • In the absence of higher-ranking management charge nurses are responsible to oversee the operations of their units and the facility as a whole. • Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties while following Ignite Healthcare and facility policies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS Education and/or Experience: • Demonstrates knowledge of basic nursing practice with an interest in gerontological nursing. • Prefer 2 years’ experience in a long-term care setting. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: • Must have a current state license to practice as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). • Current CPR certification • Additional certification in nursing specialty desired. Minimum Qualifications: • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Computer knowledge • Freedom from use of and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. • Meets state and federal criminal background check requirements.
